About Shark Island

Shark Island (Koh Chalam) is a jagged rocky outcrop off Koh Tao's southeastern tip. Strong currents sweep nutrient-rich water past the island, attracting predators — blacktip reef sharks patrol the deeper slopes while titan triggerfish aggressively guard their nests on the reef flat. The challenging conditions keep crowds thin and reward confident divers with reliably exciting marine encounters.

Tips

Dive the lee side based on current direction. Titan triggerfish can be aggressive during nesting season (Mar–Jun].
